چکیده

India is a varietal emporium of the medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) and we have well-established local healthcare tradition still relevant in indigenous healthcare system 1,2 . As per World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates, almost 80% of the population of developing countries relies on traditional medicines, mostly plant drugs, for their primary health care needs 3-5 . In developed countries, the use of Indian traditional medicines is quite prevalent and also, modern pharmacopoeia still contains at least 25% drugs derived from plants 6 . The use of medicinal plants in the Indian subcontinent can be traced back to the Vedic period. The texts mentioning the uses of different medicinal plants are the Rigveda (written between 4500 and 1600 BC), the Atharveveda (2000–1000 BC), the Charaka Samhita (∼900 BC) and the Sushruta Samhita (∼600 BC); these texts are written in Sanskrit.

Modelling the growth of Shorea robusta using growth ring measurements

This paper presents distance-independent diameter growth models for Sal (Shorea robusta Gaertn. f.) in Kankali Community Forest, Chainpur VDC, Chitwan. As the basis for modelling, stem discs were cut 0.3 m above-ground for a sample of 80 trees that had recently been felled. Growth rings were measured along four radii and, except for the outer part of a few discs originating from old trees, indi...

Anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities of the ethanolic extract of Shorea robusta Gaertn. f. resin.

Shorea robusta Gaertn. f. (Sal) is one of the most important traditional Indian medicinal plants. The resin of the plant has been used in the treatment of inflammation in folklore medicine. In the present study, ethanolic extract (70%) of S. robusta resin (SRE) was investigated for its anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities. Acute inflammation was produced by carrageenan-induced hind paw ...

Wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of Shorea robusta Gaertn. f. resin.

The ethanolic extract of S. robusta resin (10 and 30 % w/w applied locally in excised and incised wounds) produced a dose-dependent acceleration in wound contraction and increased hydroxyproline content and tensile strength of wounds in rats. The results demonstrate wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of S. robusta resin.

Ascorbic acid metabolism in ageing recalcitrant sal (Shorea robusta Gaertn. f.) seeds.

Changes in ascorbate content and its enzymatic utilization pattern were studied in embryonic axes and cotyledons of sal seeds undergoing rapid loss of viability, at ambient conditions. Ascorbate levels were significantly higher initially in the embryonic axes (0.32 mg/g fresh weight) and cotyledons (0.21 mg/g fresh weight) of freshly mature, relatively hydrated (42.2% moisture content) and 100%...

Factors affecting the nutrient status of forest sites in a mountain watershed in Nepal

Soil and foliage samples were collected from 136 sample sites in forested areas of the Dhulikhel Watershed, Nepal. Analyses showed that the soils have small values for pH, base saturation, total nitrogen, carbon and available phosphorus. Sample sites were stratified on the basis of aspect and elevation, soil type, forest type and management and the strata were compared to determine the influenc...
